2017 Fourth of July Parade/Picnic - Recap

Writer's picture: Rowena LeeRowena Lee

On July 4th, about 40 of our students and their families performed in the Concord 4th of July Parade at Todos Santos Plaza. Students rehearsed for two weeks to deliver a fantastic performance of jump kicks, staffs, and spears! It was especially great to see some of our Tiger students, ages 5 and 6, step up to perform with some of our older Dragon youth. This parade was extra special because it marked our first parade performance with our new name! Way to represent everyone!

Great job Moorea on the drumming the entire parade for the first time! You didn't skip a beat! And a special shout out to our lion dancers who kept the crowd going on such a hot day! They even made it into the local newspaper!

Lastly, it was great to spend the rest of the afternoon with our students and families at our first annual 4th of July Picnic/BBQ in Clayton! It is refreshing to interact with each other outside of kicking and punching. It was especially fun playing Ultimate Frisbee with the students. Better luck next year students beating Sifu Mike's team! Special shout out to Lucy Lee for organizing the potluck and Tom McMaster for all the terrific parade pics! Thank you again tribe for showing why you're the best tribe!
