Black Belt Summer Class of 2018
Congratulations to our newest black belts who endured a grueling six-hour examination conducted by Master Jeff Chow on Saturday, August 18. The examination included a comprehensive review of all their Kung Fu techniques and knowledge. Students were led through weapon sets, hand forms, rapid Choy Lay Fut combinations, self-defense, and they ended the test with challenging endurance exercises and board-breaking.
Each class of black belts means something different to me. This class comprised a lot of my assistant instructors. I've known some of these assistants since they were 5 years old! Now they are in college and high school, not only achieving academically, but serving as terrific role models for our younger students. At our academy we have four virtues that we teach, Bravery, Wisdom, Kindness, and Moral Integrity. As I told the graduates in my speech, though they might earn a new belt and learn new forms, these virtues are timeless and I am really proud of how they have grown to represent them more and more with each new degree. Their future and legacy of Choy Lay Fut is bright with such dedicated, exemplary students!
Lastly, thank you to the families for continually trusting our academy with your youth and for letting us be part of their evolution as martial artists and young adults!
The achievement of receiving a Black Belt is a memory that lasts a lifetime. Join us in congratulating all of our Summer Class of 2018 (see list below)
